The Natural Timbre of the Bassoon is to Blend seamlessly. Those Tone Colors are what led me to Choose the Bassoon.

So much of my life is spent in the car traveling to gigs and studying recordings along the journey. I’ve always noticed when I listen to recordings and the solo bassoon moment arrives I have to turn the volume ALL THE WAY UP and then when the Orchestra returns I have to turn the volume BACK DOWN. There’s that Seamless Blending.. 🙂

The beauty of the Seamless Blending can Make Projection a Concern for many Bassoonists. I believe this is why this Video was one of the Most Requested Videos, ever.

Here are my tips for BASSOON PROJECTION. In it we will cover choosing a reed to match the ensemble, keeping the body soft and vibrant, and setting the phrase intention before every playing a note.

A Basic How to Project to the Back of the Hall without Going Bright or Brassy, but Staying Bold.
