Last weekend we had a great day full of Reed Making, Chamber Music, Instrument Maintenance, and finishing with a Recital at our Second Annual JSU Double Reed Day.
Here our Guest Bassoonist, Benjamin Coehlo, leads the bassoon choir. Throughout the day he advised on embouchure, fingerings, bassoon maintenance and taught Reed Making.Dane Philipsen, of the Atlanta Opera, helped our students learn how to use our NEWLY DONATED and Refurbished Gouging Machines! Special Thanks to Erica Howard, our Guest from JSU Double Reed Day 2013, for refurbishing and setting the machines last Fall.Our new JSU English Horn was tested by participants in Chamber Music lead by our Alumnus, Evan Ledford!Rebecca Collins, owner of Oxford Reeds, taught reed making and was Guest Artist on the Recital.Even I got to play Francisco Mignone on the recital with my former mentor, the Brazilian Ben. Sidenote: My Outfit of the Day appears to be inspired by M.C. Escher.AND The evening was finished off in STYLE with a JSU DOUBLE REED STUDIO PARTY!
